Obituary

Bessie Andersen
March 5, 1929 – April 12, 2021
East Wenatchee, WA

Bessie peacefully slipped away from us and into the arms of Jesus on April 12, 2021. She was residing in East Wenatchee, Washington.

She was born in Alabama on March 5, 1929. She and her sister Wenona lived most of their childhood in the Baptist Children’s home in Troy, Alabama, and had many fond memories of it.

Bessie received a teaching degree from Auburn University after graduating high school. She spent her college summers as a missionary to the people of the Appalachia. Bessie married her high school sweetheart Charles Andersen in 1951 and was blessed with two daughters – Miriam and Susanna. They lived in Virginia and California before coming to Washington state in 1963. In 1967 Bessie and her family settled in Wenatchee, and she made it her home. She was blessed with a grandson, Carl Heuett, in 1975, and a grand-daughter, Jolene Heuett in 1976.

Bessie loved her house on Orchard Avenue. Many people over the 30 years she was there enjoyed her hospitality on the back porch, or by the fireplace in the living room.

Three generations in the Wenatchee Valley remember her as their teacher. Each child was precious to her, and she was a loving support to the parents as well. She enjoyed summers in Florence, Alabama with her sister and brother-in-law Wenona and Clarence Lawler.
She lived for 15 years in Fort Lauderale, FL after retiring, near her grandson Carl and Daughter Susanna. She enjoyed the beach and sunshine.

Bessie was blessed with very special Friends for more than 5 decades: notably Jan and Jim Shrable, of East Wenatchee, and Maria and Dale Hedman, of Hayden Lake, Idaho.
Bessie was welcomed into heaven by her daughter Miriam, grand-daughter Jolene, and sister Wenona.

There will be a celebration of Life for Bessie on June 16, 2021 at 5pm to 9pm, in the pavilion at Washington Park, in Wenatchee. Everyone who knew and loved Bessie is very welcome.

The family requests no flowers please - But your favorite dessert would be appreciated at the Celebration of life.

Oh, Bess. The world has lost a very bright light. You loved my daughter in her very early years being her teacher. She so looked forward to returning to school and to you. That was almost 50 years ago and we still hold you in our fondest memories and in our thankful heart. Rest In Peace, sweet lady.

Mrs. Andersen, as our kids called her, was the most awesome teacher of little ones. Our son loved her very much even though on the very first day of class she spanked him for something probably NONE of us remember. I'm sure he deserved it. She was a fair and very much loved teacher who LIVED for her students. We were also friends and visited her quite frequently in her home on Orchard in Wenatchee ...Then, when she moved to Florida, we lost track; i'm sorry to say... Thank you for this beautiful tribute. Although I didn't have the privilege of knowing Bessie, I do have the privilege of knowing her wonderfully kind, smart, and caring daughter, Susanna. From what I know of Susanna, Bessie must have been a quite a lady.

Our beloved Bess is home with Jesus! I count it such a privilege to have known her. She was always full of love for her Lord, her family, the children she taught, and her friends. Bess was a great mentor to me. I learned so much about teaching and loving children through her example! What a blessing she was to all who knew her. Jesus, thank you that she is with you- well and smiling.
