Obituary

Alice J. (Hermans) DeBoer. 79, passed away at Cashmere, Washington, on January 4, 2021, after a lengthy illness.

She was born September 26, 1941, in Longview, Washington, to Thor A. and Eva E. Hermans. Of their four children, Alice was the youngest. Her family lived in the Longview area until 1949, until they moved to Soap Lake, Washington. Alice attended school there and graduated from Soap Lake High School.

She was employed in Ephrata for several years and then moved to Elgin, Illinois. She had a family of three girls. Another move took them to Spokane, Washington for several years, where she worked at the Veterans Hospital. She enjoyed her job there and was considered a valuable employee.

Back in Ephrata she worked at the Grant County Health Department for many years having attained supervisory status and was well liked. About this time she became interested in collecting antiques and selling them. She had an antique shop for a while and made many friends who were in the same business.

Alice is survived by a sister, Faye Crawford of Ephrata, 2 brothers Dave Hermans of Stanwood and Joe Hermans, wife Pat, of Soap Lake. She had 3 daughters: Terese Drummond (Smith Siromasku) of Portland, Christine DeBoer (Stephen Enriquez) of Seattle and Julie DeBoer of Duvall. She had 8 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one niece.

At her request, there will be no services. Arrangements are in care of Heritage Memorial Chapel in Cashmere.

Alice and I were best friends from the time her family moved to Soap Lake. I took a trip to Longview with her and her parents. It was something I always remember. We had many sleepovers spent countless hours enjoying each others company, along with April Notaras we were the 3 musketeers. Eventually life journeys meant we saw each other less but would always catch up along the way. I had last talked to her in November, right after my husband died. I knew she was not well, but never prepared to lose her. Condolences to the family. Rest in peace, Alice. Love, Ella Jo

Alice DeBoer was my little sister, 8 years younger. We were closer the last 20 years, and talked often of our similar ailments and problems and wishing we could solve the world's problems. I remember her love of animals. She loved bears, polar bears and elephants. She even donated to a rehabiiatation farm for old elephants retired from zoos and circuses. But mostly, she loved her dogs - a tiny one named Dutchess and then there was her favorite - Ching - who was a Chou Chou. She missed Ching until the day she died. I will miss your greatly, Alice. Love, always, Faye
