Wesley C. Visser, 87, of East Wenatchee, passed away on Friday, November 8, 2019 in Wenatchee, WA.
Wesley was one of eleven children born to Garritt and Martha (Duchow) Visser on November 5, 1932 at Havillah, Washington. He was raised on the family ranch and received his early education in Tonasket. He graduated high school and continued his education at Junior College in Portland, Oregon. He transferred and received his Bachelor’s degree in education at Concordia Teachers College at Seward, Nebraska and his Master’s degree in education at Northern Illinois University.
In 1954 Wesley and his wife, Roberta (Schelp) Visser moved to Oxnard, CA to accept his first teaching position at St. John’s Lutheran School and later became Principal at St. John’s Lutheran School in Montebello, California. In 1964, the family moved to Kingston, Illinois where Wesley became the first Executive Director of Walcamp, a Lutheran camp in Northern Illinois. After 15 years at Walcamp he continued his camping ministry at Lutheran Valley Retreat in Colorado. Upon retirement Wesley and his second wife, Judy, moved back to his home state of Washington, living in Tonasket and finally E. Wenatchee.
Wesley was a lifelong member of the Missouri Synod Lutheran Church and very active in all the congregations he served. Upon his death he was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in East Wenatchee, WA.
He is survived by his wife, Judith Visser, East Wenatchee; Roberta (Visser) Dockweiler, Temecula, CA (mother of their five children); Dennis L. Visser, Pagosa Springs, CO, Calisse (Paul) Rogner, Belvidere, IL, Lori (Douglas) Flett, Schaumburg, Il, David (Susan) Visser, Eagle, ID and Darrin (Laura) Visser, Mesa, AZ; two brothers, Dwayne (Stella) Visser, East Wenatchee and Dwight (Jean) Visser, Trail, B.C. Canada; 9 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings; infant brotherJulius, Robert Visser, Emma Kuhlman-Leroy, Hugh Visser, Ray Visser, Roy Visser, Gerald Visser,and Marlowe Visser.
