February 17, 1933 - June 28, 2019
Joanne (Jody) Marie Ivins died peacefully in her home on June 28, 2019 in Cashmere, Washington. She was 86.
Jody was born on February 17, 1933 in Leavenworth, Washington to her parents, Joseph and June Schmaltz. She graduated from Peshastin-Dryden High School in 1951. She married George Ivins, April 14, 1966. The Ivins moved to Vashon Island where George worked as a lineman and Jody worked at K2 Ski’s. In 1977 they returned to Cashmere and Jody spent the rest of her working career at Blue Star Growers.
The joy of Jody’s later life was baking and running the Blue Star Coffee Shop. Everyone always knew there would have plenty of homemade delicious cakes and pies to eat while they were there to work. Jody also had a passion for making quilts for other people. She loved to create baby quilts for the ladies at the warehouse and wedding quilts for all her family. She had incredible team spirit and was at every game and band concert her numerous children participated in. When her son David was in high school, Jody loved sitting in the stands and cheering for the PD basketball team. When the team went to the state basketball tournament in 1971, Jody knitted matching maroon and white neck scarves for the whole team. Jody was known for her quick wit, her infectious smile, and her kind and compassionate spirit. Her kids are still repeating some of her favorite sayings like “If your waiting on me, your wasting time”, which she repeated until the day she died.
Mrs. Ivins is survived by her sister Jewell Lavigne, and six of her eight children. Son and daughter-in-law David and Becky Adams of Aurora, Colorado; daughter Robin Eleazer of Spokane, Washington; son Robert Hendricks of Cashmere; daughter Rebecca Harris of Kingston, Oklahoma, son Mark Ivins; and step-son and daughter-in-law Chris and Ellie Ivins, Spokane; 15 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, George, her son Kenneth Hendricks and step-daughter Melaine Doyle.
