Waterville, WA

Elizabeth "Juanita" Herrick, 88, a former longtime Waterville resident, passed away on Friday, June 21, 2019, at Central Washington hospital.

She was born on May 11, 1931, in Joplin, Missouri, to the late Sidney and Elizabeth (Sims) Reed Sr. She met and was married to Byron (Barney)A. Herrick on March 3, 1951,the family lived in the Woodburn and Molalla area and continued to make their home in Oregon. In 1966 the family moved to Waterville area when she was hired as the full time cook at Barnes Ranch 12 miles east of Waterville. In 1968 Barney got a job with Douglas County, so Juanita left the farm and the family moved into Waterville. She then started working at the Dodge House as the breakfast cook. Her son and daughter said that when she worked their the County and State Road crews told their wife’s they could sleep in late, they’d just grab something at the restaurant. On March 5, 1990, she was preceded in death by her husband. Juanita remained in Waterville until 1996, when she made her home near her daughter in Battle Mountain, NV. She returned to Waterville often after her son (LeRoy) moved back home to spend time every summer. She continued working and became a home health caregiver. Juanita was an angel without wings and she has now received her wings. She loved animals and enjoyed helping her daughter with rescue pets. She was loved by so many children in Waterville, that many call her "grandma."

She is survived by her son, Byron LeRoy Herrick of Waterville, WA; daughters: Wanda Lee Brown of Vancouver, WA and Elizabeth "Liz" and Jerry Kiehne of Battle Mountain, NV; brother, E. Donald "Don" Reed of Anchorage, AK; Daughter-in Law, Rosemary Herrick of Wenatchee, WA and grandchildren: Tony Brown of Vancouver, WA, Brian Brown of Caldwell, ID, Jacob Kiehne of Battle Mountain, NV, J.R. Kiehne of Nampa, ID, Deanna Barham of Mount Vernon, WA, and Dean Herrick Jr. of Wenatchee, WA, and numerous great-grandchildren.
