Charles Elbert James, 76, passed away at Central Washington hospital in Wenatchee, WA, on Tuesday, May 7, 2019.

Charles, or better known as Chuck, was born on July 22, 1942, in Ashland City, Tennessee. He graduated from Central High School in 1962 in Ashland City. Chuck served in the Air Force as a fireman until July 31, 1985, attaining the rank of Tech Sergeant (TSgt.) He was a fire protection specialist for 18 years 7 months, and a training management technician for 4 years and 4 days. In his time with the military, he received an Air Force Commendation medal with two oak leaf clusters, AF Outstanding Unit award with two oak leaf clusters, AF Good Conduct medal with one silver leaf cluster (27 Dec 62 – 26 Dec 83), National Defense Service medal, AF Longevity Service award ribbon with four oak leaf clusters, NCO Professional Military Educ Grad ribbon, and a Small Arms Expert Marksmanship ribbon.

On August 22, 1965, he married Sandra Lee (Schulz) James in Wenatchee, WA. They were married for a wonderful 53 years. He was a great provider, an incredible husband, amazing father, and entertaining grandfather.

He was stationed in Moses lake, WA, Austin, TX, Rantoul, IL, Del Rio, TX, Germany, Alexandria, LA, and Spokane, WA, where he retired. From there him and his family moved to Moses Lake where he was a firefighter for the port of Moses Lake for seven years. They then moved to Yakima where he worked for CWI security for 14 years and transferred back to Moses lake where he continued to work for the company until retirement.

Chuck will be remembered for his service to his country, his southern cooking, his enthusiasm for sports, his feisty spirit and smile.

He was survived by his spouse, Sandra James of Moses Lake, WA; children: Sherry (Lee) Mcgough of Moses Lake, WA, and Kenneth (Jami) James of Naches, WA; grandchildren: George Samaras, Andrea (Scott) Samaras-Divelbliss, Clint McGough, Katlyn Mathenia, Kyle McGough, Jacob Olson, Casey Olson, Brogin Mathenia; and great-grandchildren: Mayson and Phoebe. Chuck was preceded in death by his father, William James; mother, Alma (Bennett) James; brother, Roger “Dale” James; and sister; Dimple Schulthesis.

A Celebration of Life, with full military honors, will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Friday, May 24, 2019, at the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery and Mausoleum, 1301 10th St. NE, East Wenatchee, WA, 98802. Family and friends are invited to join for a Reception at 12:00 p.m., at Our Redeemer’s Presbyterian Church, 172 Ivy Street SE, Ephrata, WA, 98823.
