February 4, 1934 - March 23, 2019
Stanley Phillip Spencer, age 85, died at Central Washington Hospital, in Wenatchee, WA, on March 23rd, 2019. The cause of death was due to Influenza A and other contributing conditions.
Born February 4th, 1934, in Broken Arrow, OK, to Everett and Laura Spencer, he attended school in Puyallup, WA, and graduated from high school in San Diego, CA, in 1952. Stan served in the Marine Corp until 1956 with final rank of Corporal. While serving at Cherry Point MCAS in North Carolina, he met and married Barbara Geoffrion in 1955, also a Marine PFC stationed there.
In 1957 they traveled by car to Washington State where Stan started his airline mechanic career at SeaTac Airport with Pacific Northern Airlines, which became Western Airlines and then Delta Airlines. Being transferred a few times, they lived in Los Angeles, CA, San Francisco, CA, then back to Seattle, WA. He retired in 1987 after 30 years of service.
Stan was a member of the Catholic Church and served in the Knights of Columbus, a Catholic Service Organization. He found joy in sending money to aid an orphanage in Peru and received pictures back of the children he was blessing.
Stan’s nickname at work was “Stainless” because he was a perfectionist and very safety conscious. He was never afraid to jump in and save a life when needed; whether it was pulling passengers out of burning planes, or keeping fellow mechanics from getting sucked into airplane engines.
He enjoyed hunting with his brother, Earl, boating on the family’s 20 ft. cabin cruiser through the San Juan Islands, family campouts and playing his banjo or guitar while jamming with other talented family members at their many gatherings.
He is survived by his children: John, Karen and Jeannie; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren, with one more on the way, and his brothers: Ervin, Leonard, and Donny. Stan was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara, in 2001.
A Memorial Service was held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 6, 2019, at Heritage Memorial Chapel, located at 19 Rock Island Road, East Wenatchee, Washington. Following the memorial, family and friends joined for a catered reception at the West Coast Hotel. Stanley was interred at the Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, Washington
