East Wenatchee, WA
Janet Elizabeth Pelton, 94, of East Wenatchee, passed away peacefully Saturday December 22, 2018, surrounded by family and her loving care givers at Caring Cottage.
She was born Janet Elizabeth Lawrence to George (Stiney) and Elsie Lawrence of Grassflat, Pennsylvania. Janet attended the schools in Grassflat and graduated from Cooper Township High School in 1942 were she first met her future husband Howard Pelton. She was a member of the Grassflat Lutheran Church and while in high school was class president and a cheerleader all four years of her attendance.
After graduating from high school she moved to Naugatuck, Connecticut where she did her part to support the war effort while working at the U.S. Rubber Company. It was during this period that she decided to attend the Cadet Nurse Corps Training with her lifelong friend Esther. While still at nursing school and after the war ended in 1945, Lt Howard Pelton USAF, a classmate, returned from England. They started dating again and were married July 6, 1946 and spent the next 71 years together until Howard passed in 2017.
After getting married she spent the first twenty years of her marriage as the wife of a career military officer. During those years they were assigned to various duty stations around the country and abroad. It was during this time that she and her husband developed the passion of traveling and meeting new people.
When her husband retired from the Air Force they moved to California where she worked as a Secretary for Custom Made Packaging and her husband was a school teacher. Her husband continued to work after her retirement and they began traveling extensively in their motorhome during the summer months. Their travels took them to 45 states, Mexico and eventually north to Canada and Alaska. During their travels they got to visit many wonderful places and established many long time friendships. As their travels focused more on going north they eventually ended up in Alaska. They liked Alaska so much that they sold their house in California and moved to Soldotna were they lived for eleven years. She moved back to the lower forty eight and lived with her son and his wife until her death.
She was a loving and caring person that always had a smile and words of encouragement for every person she ever met. She loved entertaining, cooking, sewing, reading, playing golf, fishing and especially playing games with friends and family.
Janet is survived by her Son Randy Pelton and his wife Brenda of East Wenatchee; Grandsons: Andrew Pelton of Albuquerque, New Mexico, David Pelton of Eugene, Oregon, Kyle Pelton of East Wenatchee, Mike Pelton of East Wenatchee; great-grandchildren: Danika, Audrey, Leah and Jack. She is preceded in death by her husband, Howard; parents, George and Elsie; brother, Roy; and her son, Larry.
She has asked that no local services be held but services will take place at the Lance Lutheran Church in Pennsylvania when arrangements can be made.
