Gerald Russell “Jerry” Wood
April 11, 1927 – July 27, 2018
Jerry passed away July 27, 2018, at the age of 91. He was born April 11, 1927, in Wenatchee, WA, to Russell and Esther Wood. His family lived in Wenatchee and Entiat where he attended schools. He also served in the US Navy. On March 31, 1949, he married his wife of 69 years, Myrtle Whitehall. They made their home in Entiat where they raised their three children. He worked at the Ardenvoir Sawmill for many years, and then attended school to become a Beautician. He owned and operated Entiat Beauty Salon from the mid 60’s to mid 70’s, where he made many friends. He loved music and taught himself to play the piano by ear, and played for local weddings and funerals. He loved growing flowers, traveling, fishing, and raising canaries. His greatest joy was spending time with family. He especially loved being a “Grandpa” to his nine grandchildren, and “Papa” to his nine great-grandchildren. He was a member of Wenatchee Seventh-day Adventist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Myrtle; sons: Glen Wood and Dan (Cindy) Wood, all of Entiat, WA; daughter, Kathy (Norm) Winters, of East Wenatchee, WA; grandchildren: Angela, Eric, Jennifer, Abigail, Ryan, Alanna, Jessica, Zackary and Alex; great-grandchildren: Matthew, Hannah, Isabel, Jasmine, Cole, Aspen, Cooper, Emma, and Elijah; brothers: Mike Wood and John (Mary) Wood; sister, Wanda Smith; sister-in-law, Ann Wood; and many nieces and nephews. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, David Wood, and sisters: Geneva Stumpf and June Larsen.
The family would like to thank Souve Family Home and CFH Hospice for their care the past few months. A Memorial Service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, August 10, 2018, at the Wenatchee Seventh-day Adventist Church, located at 508 North Western Ave., Wenatchee, WA. A reception will follow in the Family Life Center with a light meal to be provided. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made in Jerry’s name to the American Diabetes Association or your favorite charity. Arrangements are in the care of Heritage Memorial Chapel, East Wenatchee.
