Glenda Ann Goedde, 79 of Wenatchee, WA joined our Lord and many family members and friends on June 5, 2018. Born September 7, 1938 to Kenneth and Juanita Johns, Glenda began her life in Los Angeles, CA. Her family traveled to and from Washington several times before permanently moving to start a family ranch in 1947, in the town of Orondo. There, Glenda attended Orondo and East Wenatchee schools while working on the family ranch with her sisters and cousins and enjoying many rides on her horse, Toots. Glenda graduated from Wenatchee High School in 1956, and was Princess Orondo that same year. After high school, she attended Kinman Business University in Spokane.
Glenda met and married the love of her life, Ken Goedde, in 1959. As their family grew and job requirements changed, the Goeddes moved from Chelan to East Wenatchee. The family then moved to Cashmere in 1976, where they raised three children. Ken and Glenda then moved to Wenatchee in 2017.
Glenda worked at several banks during her working years as well as Welsh Fruit Sales, where she earned her nickname “Sam”. Her first granddaughter is named after her (Samantha). All while working, she carpooled several children across town to school, built and kept an amazing home of warmth and love, volunteered with Ken building parade floats, and eventually started building them commercially.
Designing and building floats with Ken provided a great opportunity for Glenda to express her artistic abilities. In a span of 15 years, 45 award-winning floats were designed, built, and transported to partake in numerous festivals. Glenda’s sister, Marge Noyd, joined in the fun and worked side-by-side for several years, where they shared their talents, lots of laughter and sometimes tears over their precious works of art. Ken and Glenda enjoyed those years meeting and creating deep friendships across the globe.
In between years of floats the Goeddes enjoyed traveling to Europe, Canada, the East Coast, and Hawaii.
In 2004, Glenda was diagnosed with breast cancer. She fought this battle with fierce determination for the remainder of her life. In 2012, she was baptized, confirmed and became a member of Saint Francis Xavier Catholic Church, where she built an additional community of great friendships and support.
Glenda was known by many as a gracious host, ready with some goodies, wisdom, a welcoming smile, and a deep sense of humor. Even in her times of difficulty, she wanted to know how everyone else was.
Glenda is survived by her husband Ken Goedde, children Russ (Lynda) granddaughter Samantha Goedde, Tony (Tina) granddaughter Gabrielle Goedde, and Jill (Dave) grandsons Peter and James Nye, sisters Ardie Shriner, and Kathy Bailey and her husband Jim, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Kenneth and Juanita Johns, an infant brother, nephew Alan Shriner, and sister Marge Noyd.
A celebration of life will be held Thursday, July 12, 2018, 11:00 AM, at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church, Cashmere. A reception will follow at Cashmere Riverside Center.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Glenda’s name to Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church building fund, Wells House, or Wenatchee Wellness Center.
The family gives special thanks to her many doctors, nurses, hospice caregivers, friends and family for the many years of prayers and support throughout her journey.
