Obituary for Roger McNees

Roger J. McNees
November 20, 1950 – May 23, 2018

Roger J. McNees, 67, a longtime Cashmere resident, passed away on May 23, 2018, at Virginia Mason Hospital in Seattle, Washington.

He was born on November 20, 1950, in Nome, Alaska, and was raised there until the age of 10 before moving with his family to the Seattle area. They later moved to Leavenworth, Washington, where he attended junior high and high school. He graduated from Cascade High School in 1969.

Roger entered the US Marines and served during the Vietnam War. Upon receiving his honorable discharge, he briefly worked on the Alaskan Pipeline before he moved to heavy construction work for the local union, #302, of Seattle. He never lost touch with the McCollum family and on December 2, 1978, he was married to MaryAnn McCollum in Yakima, Washington. They made their first home together in Seattle. When his union construction jobs began faltering, they moved to Peshastin, Washington, and he attended night school at Wenatchee Valley College. Upon receiving his Associate's Degree in accounting, he accepted a state job in Medical Lake as an accountant. They made their new home in Cheney and Roger also continued his education, taking night classes at Spokane Falls Community College. He became a Mental Health Technician working in direct patient care at Eastern State Mental Hospital and remained there until retiring. In 2010, they moved to make their home in Cashmere, Washington.

Roger was a member of Central Washington Prospectors and the local union #302 of Seattle. Roger enjoyed fishing and prospecting and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife, MaryAnn McNees of Cashmere, WA; children, Eric Michael McNees and Tiffany Marie McNees, both of Seattle, WA; grandchildren: Solomon, Eamon and Emory Doxey and Christina Sellers-McNees, all of Seattle, WA, and his brothers and sisters. He was preceded in death by his adoptive and biological parents, and his daughter, Christina Michelle McNees in 2006.

A Graveside Service with military honors will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, June 8, 2018, at the Mountain View Cemetery, located at 12974 Cemetery Road, in Leavenworth, WA. Following the Service, a potluck reception will be held at the Henry Building, located at 120 Cottage Ave, Cashmere WA.
