Verneeda Ruth Williams (Thompson) long time resident of the Wenatchee Valley passed away on March 1, 2018 in her home at Columbia Heights Assisted Living Facility.
She was born July 28, 1933 in Bremerton, WA to Fred and Viola (Turner) Thompson. When she was young, the family moved to Ardenvoir, WA, where she and her siblings grew up. She was a loyal and loving sister, with a fun-loving personality, a zest for life and was always up for an adventure, like sneaking off to go skinny-dipping in the Entiat river or sleeping out under the stars. She enjoyed the outdoors and loved gardening, camping, fishing and hunting. Always having a soft spot for animals, she would do her best to help any critter in need, once even hand feeding a nest of motherless baby field mice. Truly one of the strongest people I’ve ever known, she always worked hard and tirelessly, without ever a complaint, to take care of her family. Her greatest joy was her family and she loved to have her children, grandchildren and friends around her. She always looked forward to the holidays or any other reason for a family get-together. She was smart and funny and more than just a little mischievous. Being very quick witted, she loved to tease those she was fond of and had a beautiful, spirited and hearty laugh that will be missed.
She is survived by two sisters; Shirley Williams of Bonney Lake, WA & Donna Thurman of Batesville, AK. Four sons; John Segle of Entiat, WA, Bill Williams of Springdale, WA, Kevin Williams of East Wenatchee, WA, Doug Williams of East Wenatchee, WA and one daughter, Jodie McWhorter of East Wenatchee, WA. Grandchildren; Willie Williams, Ina Dierks, Tasha Savage, Steven Williams, Mike Finke, Jessi Finke, Melissa Williams, Tina Scott, Tanya Jones, Shayna Williams, Becca Williams, Teala Williams, Joshua Johnson, Jacob Johnson, Joseph Johnson, Jessica Johnson as well as many great grandchildren and lots of friends she welcomed like family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; Fred Thompson and Viola Thompson (Turner), the love of her life; William Williams, sister; Arlene Law of Wenatchee, WA, brother; Donald Thompson of Ardenvoir, WA, son Steven Williams of Wenatchee, WA and two grandsons, Shawn and Shane Segle of Wenatchee, WA.
The family had a private gathering in her honor, and this spring, she will be placed on Tyee Ridge overlooking the Entiat River where she loved to hunt, fish and explore.
The family would appreciate and love to hear any stories you’d like to share.
