Obituary for Roger Davis
Roger O. Davis
Roger O. Davis, 84, a longtime Wenatchee resident, passed away on Friday, November 24, 2017 at Central Washington Hospital, following a brief illness.
He was born on March 1, 1933 at Manson, Washington to the late Oliver Lewis and Blanche Elzina (Long) Davis. He was raised on the family orchard near Manson. When Roger was 12, his father passed away and he had to become the man of the household and the orchards. During the late 1940’s, they moved to Wenatchee where their family operated the chicken hatchery on Columbia Street. Roger worked at the hatchery and was also a carrier for The Wenatchee World. A fire later destroyed the chicken hatchery. All during this time, he was attending Wenatchee High School and played football. A busy young man school did not slow him from his ambition for work and during summer breaks, he worked with the construction crew on the building of the Alcoa Plant. His performance was so well liked that they offered him full time employment. He declined and graduated with the Wenatchee High School class of 1951. He continued his education at the University of Washington in Seattle, where he was a member of the Delta Tau Delta Fraternity. He later became an Allstate Insurance Agent and also worked at Standard Brands food manufacturing company. He met Rae Lois Hill and they were married in Seattle in the later 1950’s. His ambition not quenched, he worked part time at the local bowling alley as well to supplement their income. His work with Standard Brands food company led his career path to Nestles Foods where he became a Food Service Specialist. He worked for Nestles until retiring in 1992. Following his retiring, they purchased a motorhome and travelled across the United States, wintering in southern states. In 1999, they moved to make their home in Wenatchee. On February, 27, 2002, he was preceded in death by his wife, Rae Lois Davis. Roger continued to make his home in Wenatchee. He later reconnected with his high school sweetheart, Carolyn M. (Ellis) Hamilton and they were married on March 15, 2015 while visiting family at Mesa, Arizona. They made their home together in East Wenatchee.
He loved spending time with his grandchildren, enjoyed all varieties of sports, especially football and liked watching Barrett Jackson Auto Auctions. He was active with the Class of 1951 activities, his weekly coffee with the “boys” and went to Gold’s Gym for some physical and social exercise.
