Donald Irvin Richards, 85, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, passed away peacefully in Wenatchee, WA on March 22, 2017.
Born in Bellingham, WA to Irvin and Ester Richards on July 12, 1931; Don grew up and attended school in Everett, WA graduating from Everett High School and University of Washington. Following a long career as an administrator with Wenatchee School District, Don became the City of Wenatchee Personnel Director, served as a Wenatchee City Councilman, on the YMCA and Link Transit Boards and was a long-time Kiwanis member.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley and children; Denise (Ed), Todd, Jan (Wendy), Sheryl (Doug), Lori, Linda (Doug), Dan (Elizabeth) and Candy; 30 grand and great grandchildren; brother, Dennis. Don was preceded in death by his parents, sister and brother.
The world lost a shining star with his passing. Don will be remembered for his humor, generosity and dedication to family and community, his intellect, insight, wit and dedication to his University of Washington Huskies
The family extends special thanks to his dedicated caregivers at Wanda’s Leisure Living, Karen and Dr. Peter Rutherford, for many years of loving care and guidance on his journey through Alzheimer ’s disease.
Please join the family in a Celebration of Donald’s Life at Trinity United Methodist Church, 850 N. James St., East Wenatchee, on Saturday, April 8, 2017, 1:00 pm. In memory of Don, the family suggests donations to the Trinity United Methodist Church Memorial Fund. Arrangements are assisted by Heritage Memorial Chapel, East Wenatchee.
